Indoor track: South Hadley’s Emma Sanford wins 3 events at PVIAC Meet No. 7

A strong close to the regular season for the Hampshire County contingent highlighted the late session of Sunday’s PVIAC Meet No. 7 at Smith College in Northampton.

South Hadley senior Emma Sanford paced that contingent, as she won three more events in impressive fashion. Sanford was first in the 55-meter hurdles (8.82), high jump (5-1) and long jump (16-7.5), as she helped the Tigers to dual meet wins over Hampshire Regional, Baystate Academy and Athol.

Teammate Abigail Gelinas won the 55-meter dash (7.74), and was second in the 300 meters (45.14).

Amherst’s April Schilling won the 600 meters with a time of 1:47, and teammate Tamar Byl-Brann bested the field by a comfortable margin in the 2-mile (12:53.63).

Northampton had two individual winners during Sunday's event. Anna Zamer was a convincing winner in the 1-mile (5:47.69), and Norah Reade took first overall in the 1,000 meters (3:16.39).

Blue Devils shine in boys meet

Five different Northampton track stars captured individual wins on Sunday, as the Blue Devils swept a pair of dual meets against Chicopee (59-35) and Putnam (74-16).

Senior Rowan Hodgson set the tone in the 55 meters, where he captured first place with a time of 6.81 seconds.

Northampton’s Ryland Breen took first place in the 300 meters (37.65), and teammate Davis Wheat was the winner in the 1,000 meters (2:48.17).

Rounding out the Blue Devils’ winners were Jack Kamins in the 1-mile (4:40.67) and Theodore King-Pollet in the 2-mile (10:32.44).

Northampton also won the 4x200 meter relay (1:36.91).

Amherst picked up two impressive victories during Sunday’s meet, as the ’Canes handled Putnam in their dual meet, 41-19.

Juniors David Pinero-Jacome and Miguel Pinero-Jacome went 1-2 in the 600 meters, as David took the victory in 1:29.29.

Amherst’s Logan Alfandari won the shot put again on Sunday, with a top heave of 48 feet, 11.25 inches.
