Ed Orzechowski: Act now on gun violence

My wife and I were both moved by the Chester Theater production of “On the Exhale” last Saturday afternoon. Tara Franklin’s one-woman performance in this play that addresses gun violence in our country was riveting.

Besides a mother’s grief, this play addresses the marketing, power, sexiness and allure of guns, the desire for revenge, and our continuing national tragedy.

On the way home, we heard of yet another mass shooting that very afternoon, followed by another within 24 hours. The page one story across the top of Monday morning’s Daily Hampshire Gazette included an arresting photo. We had to look twice at the seated El Paso woman because the photo looked like it could have been taken during the performance of the play.

This issue needs to be an unremitting item at the top of our national agenda. No politics, no spin, no lobbying and no prayers. Action.
