NORTHAMPTON – The city Public Health Department will hold a free flu vaccine clinic Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Northampton Senior Center, 67 Conz St.

People seeking the flu vaccine must be 19 years old or older at this clinic, the health department said in a press release. The high-dose flu vaccine will be available on a first come, first serve basis and is recommended for people aged 65 years and older.

The flu vaccine is free at the clinic, but patrons should bring their Medicare or private insurance card so the health department can bill your insurance for administrative costs, the health department said.

Between 5 and 20 percent of the U.S. population gets the flu each year, on average, and more than 200,000 people are hospitalized from flu-related complications each year, the health department said. The Centers for Disease Control recommend that everyone 6 months and older receive the flu vaccination every year.
