The Northampton Education Foundation's 20th annual Adult Spelling Bee held Oct. 19 was an overwhelming success, thanks to our incredible community! A fun evening featuring amazing costumes, enthusiastic teams, and very challenging-to-spell words combined to raise money to fund creative projects in our Northampton public schools! With the community’s help, NEF raised over $12,000 for our Small Grants program, which will fund educational experiences conceived and executed by teachers in our community. Past grants have been awarded to teach a wide variety of innovative programs, including a STEM initiative connecting high school and elementary students, a vibrant mural project at JFK and Northampton High School, and cycling classes with adaptive equipment for students with disabilities. We’d especially like to thank our sponsors, without whom this event would have been impossible. Event sponsors: D.A. Sullivan & Sons, Fierst Bloomberg Ohm LLP, Friends of Marcia Burick, Greenfield Savings Bank, PeoplesBank, Valley Home Improvement Team sponsors: A2Z Science and Learning Toy Store, Anonymous, Apex Dental Associates of Florence, Applied Mortgage, Broadside Books, The Cat Hospital, The Community Classroom Tutors, The Dadz, Dale Melcher & Bill Newman, Gage-Wiley & Co., Grow Food Northampton, Hawley Hooligans, Kevin and Sallie Deans Lake, Lesser, Newman, Aleo, & Nassar, Marisa Labozzetta & Martin Wohl, Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra Campaign Committee, North Star: Self-Directed Learning for Teens, Northampton Lions Club, Osaka Lunch Club, PixelEdge, River Valley Co-op, Sasson, Turnball, Ryan and Hoose, Shelly Hardy, Maple and Main Realty, Tandem Bagel, Thornes Marketplace, UMass Five College Federal Credit Union, Whalen Insurance, Wohl Family Dentistry. Sincere thanks to everyone who participated in a fun night for a great cause.
