NORTHAMPTON — A Westhampton man will be charged with a felony after allegedly waving a firearm outside his car window in an apparent road rage incident, according to Northampton police.

Early Friday evening, police spoke with two people in Florence who said that a man driving behind them in a car had waved a black handgun out of his window, Northampton Police Chief Jody Kasper reported on the department’s Facebook page. The incident took place in the area of Pine and Park streets, Kasper said.

“The driver continued to follow them and flashed his headlights before speeding away,” Kasper said. “The callers provided a description of the vehicle and the driver.”

Kasper said that officers eventually found a 24-year-old suspect from Westhampton. She said the police seized his weapon and will charge him with assault with a dangerous weapon.

Kasper did not identify the suspect.
