SPRINGFIELD — A three-car crash early Saturday on Interstate 91 north left a Northampton man dead and three other people injured.

At around 2:10 a.m. Saturday, Yerly Jared Santizo Morales, 26, of Northampton, lost control of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra he was driving north and crashed into the center median, Massachusetts State Police said, coming to rest in the left travel lane.

The crash site was near Exit 2 in Springfield, and the reasons for Morales losing control are still being investigated, state police said. Morales died at the scene of the crash.

A 23-year-old woman from Westfield and a 25-year-old man from Florence driving north in a 2015 Honda Civic stopped to assist Morales. Both were then hit by a 2015 Toyota Avalon driven by a 44-year-old Westfield man, and taken to Baystate Medical Center for the treatment of injuries, state police said. The driver of the Toyota was taken to Baystate for minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
