EASTHAMPTON — A masked crowd turned out at the Public Safety Complex Monday morning to see Christopher Norris sworn in as the city’s new fire chief.

Pinning the badge on the chief were Norris’ two daughters, Payton and Claire, supervised by their mother and Norris’ wife Ashleigh Norris.

“It was special for me, it was special for them, to be able to pin me today,” Norris said.

A paramedic herself, Ashleigh Norris noted how much getting the job meant to her husband.

“This is a dream realized for him,” she said.

Among those looking on were Mayor Nicole LaChapelle, state Rep. Dan Carey, D-Easthampton, numerous members of the fire and police departments, and members of the Northampton Fire Department, where Norris served as a deputy chief prior to assuming his current job. Easthampton city councilors also showed up for the ceremony.

Norris, who is 44, officially started on the job July 27.

“He’s been a great teammate already,” Police Chief Robert Alberti said. “We’re very happy to have him.”

A Westhampton resident, Norris has been in the fire service since 1994. He served as Westhampton’s fire chief until last year.
