NORTHAMPTON — Carol Shaw of Northampton is one of two attorneys nominated to the Massachusetts Juvenile Court by Gov. Charlie Baker, the administration announced in a press release Wednesday.

Shaw has served as assistant clerk magistrate for the Hampden County Juvenile Court since 2012. In that role, she determined probable cause for criminal charges at show-cause hearings and developed diversion opportunities, among other things.

Prior to that, she worked as a judicial law clerk for the Springfield Probate and Family Court and spent 13 years as assistant regional counsel in Berkshire County for the Springfield Department of Children and Families.

Shaw received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Syracuse University and went on to Western New England College School of Law in Springfield.

Baker also nominated Tracie Souza of Rehoboth, who has served as an assistant regional counsel at the Department of Children and Families Southeast Legal Division since December.

“Throughout their careers, Carol Shaw and Tracie Souza have served many of the Commonwealth’s most vulnerable families and children facing difficult circumstances,” Baker said in the Wednesday statement. “Both attorneys understand the tremendous legal and personal pressures facing any resident who comes before the Juvenile Court, and I look forward to seeing their combined experience strengthen its mission of protecting our youth.”

Applicants for the Juvenile Court — a statewide court that oversees civil and criminal matters such as delinquencies, children requiring assistance cases and care and protections — are reviewed by a statewide commission and recommended to the governor. The Juvenile Court has 41 judges.
