HADLEY — The Hadley Council of Aging will welcome two new staff members Friday afternoon.

The 2 p.m. reception at the Hooker School Building, 46 Middle St., in conjunction with the First Friday with Friends of the Senior Center event, will allow the public to meet program coordinator Violet Suska and outreach coordinator Martha Izer.

Both women were appointed by the Select Board Nov. 1 during a meeting at which Suzanne Travisano, the town’s senior services director, described them as “very highly qualified.”

“I’m very excited that they are looking at doing this with us,” Travisano said.

Suska brings 11 years of experience as a senior center program coordinator in Chicopee, while Izer, a Hadley resident, is a licensed social worker.

Suska replaces the late Elsie Waskiewicz, who died Nov. 4 after serving for more than a decade as Hadley’s program coordinator.

Travisano told the Select Board that having Izer on board will allow senior citizens to be assessed for various services, and to begin offering support groups.
