Hampshire Mosque thanks community

“By Allah, none of you truly believes until you love for your neighbor, what you love for yourself.”

This prophetic statement was fully evidenced by the large crowd of over 300 people at the Hampshire Mosque’s “Neighbors Together” event, in an outpouring of heartfelt camaraderie and financial support (“Gifts for a new house of worship,” Nov. 20).

What began as a desire to unite the community in a fundraiser for the Hampshire Mosque soon became a dedicated interfaith collaboration, with community members working tirelessly to organize a celebration of our shared values.

Wesley United Methodist Church generously donated its beautiful space and helped us to welcome neighbors of many backgrounds and faiths from across the Valley. Together we engaged in an interfaith program, enjoyed a robust silent auction, and savored an international buffet prepared by members of the mosque.

On behalf of the entire Hampshire Mosque community, we would like express our most sincere thanks and humble appreciation to the event organizers, who truly embody neighborly generosity, and who worked countless hours to tend to every detail of the event’s success.

Thank you to the many volunteers, faith communities, businesses and organizations that spread the word about the event and our goal of strengthening community, and who contributed their time, effort and financial support. Thank you to all of the guests who joined us.

With over 150 auction items donated by local businesses and individuals, and over 70 event co-sponsors, it was truly an opportunity to form new friendships and strengthen old ones, build interfaith fellowship and deepen our bonds as a community. We are truly blessed to be living in a community where our hearts are full of love, care and openness, and we don’t hesitate to show it in words and actions. The ongoing outpouring of community support reaffirms our promise and possibilities in our new spiritual home.

We also are very grateful to the Jones Library in downtown Amherst, where we have been welcome to hold our weekly Friday community service for nearly three years.

“Neighbors Together” was a priceless gathering of solidarity, as well as a financial success, helping to raise over $25,000 for our project.

We look forward, God willing, to the time when we will welcome all of you to our new Hampshire Mosque, to create a place of hospitality and friendship for generations to come. Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.
