It was a big weekend for the Valley Blue Sox, which swept a trio of games to get back to the .500 mark entering the final week of the NECBL’s regular season.

Valley 13, Danbury 5

Valley capitalized on an eight-run seventh inning to win Sunday’s game 13-5. The Blue Sox continued to cushion their lead for the No. 8 seed in the NECBL playoff picture.

Danbury starter Alex Mach struggled early and gave up four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Blue Sox designated hitter Jay Bant hit his third home run of the season, helping Valley take a 4-0 lead after two.

Danbury rallied with five straight runs for a 5-4 lead, but Valley scored eight times in the bottom of the seventh to snatch control. Jonathan Hogart and Bant singled in runners. Anthony Scarabino walked and Zev Moore also singled in runners. Kyle Henington capped the eight-run frame to make it 12-5.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, down 3-2, the Blue Sox had the bases loaded with nobody out for new pitcher Jacob Zenger. Kai Cunningham hit the game-tying RBI single and Lucas Manning hit in the go-ahead run to make it 4-3 going into the top of the seventh.
