It took 11 innings, but the Valley Blue Sox saw their 2024 season come to an end on Saturday afternoon.

The second-seeded Newport Gulls scored four times in the top of the 11th inning, and held No. 7 Valley off the board in the home half to capture a 10-6 win in Game 2 of an NECBL quarterfinal round series at MacKenzie Stadium in Holyoke.

Newport swept the best-of-three series 2-0, and will play No. 3 Bristol in the semifinals.

The Blue Sox finished their season 21-24 overall.

Saturday’s game was tied 4-4 after nine innings, and Newport scored twice in the top of the 10th to snatch control.

The Blue Sox answered in the home half, as EJ Ettinger and Logan Hugo drilled back-to-back RBI singles to tie the game 6-6 and send action into the 11th.

Dixon Williams drove in a pair with a two-run single in the top of the 11th, and Newport scored twice more on an error to make it a 10-6 game.

Granby’s Michael Toth was hit by a pitch in the bottom of the 11th, but that was all the Blue Sox could muster as their season came to an end.
