EASTHAMPTON – Betty-Anne Gould of Westhampton has been delivering meals to homebound seniors for eight years – and for all that time, she’s had the company of her Shih Tzu, Munchkin, now 12.

Gould started out making visits with the Meals on Wheels program, which operates on weekdays, and then joined in with the local Take and Eat program, which fills in the gap with meals on weekends. She says her routes for the two programs have quite a bit of overlap so she and Munchkin are able to check in with some of the same people throughout the entire week.

Last Saturday morning, I photographed a crew of nine volunteers in the kitchen of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton preparing 90 meals for the Take and Eat program. To get a “closing” picture, I met up with Gould at her first stop in Easthampton and found Munchkin perched atop a booster seat in the passenger side of her Mustang convertible, taking in the scene and an occasional drink of water.
