HOLYOKE — State police have identified the victims of Sunday night’s fatal, head-on crash on I-91, confirming that, in addition to the two drivers, a passenger also has died.

On Tuesday, Massachusetts State Police said that Judith Keating and Michelle Swaller — both 65 years old and from Milford, Connecticut — were killed after a car traveling the wrong way in the southbound lane crashed into them. The driver in the car traveling in the wrong direction was Wallace Sherman Jr. of Gloversville, New York, who also died in the crash.

The drivers of both cars were found dead on the scene, while the passenger in the Connecticut vehicle, Michelle Swaller, was taken to the hospital in critical condition. She later died of her injuries.

The facts surrounding how the crash transpired are still under investigation, police said.

The crash comes about four months after a separate fatal crash involving a wrong-way driver on I-91 in Holyoke.

In April, a 69-year-old Chicopee woman who was driving south on the northbound side of the interstate was killed when she collided head-on with a car traveling north. The driver of the second vehicle, a 25-year-old Springfield man, was taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries in that incident.
