Says McCourt understands struggles of residents

After 16 years as the Massachusetts state representative for the 2nd Hampshire District (Easthampton, Hadley, South Hadley and Granby’s Precinct 2), John Scibak is retiring.

Three candidates seek to replace him. One of them, Marie McCourt, deserves special attention. She would be new to state office, but has the experience needed to serve as a state representative. She has served on Granby’s School Committee and is on the board of Neighbors Helping Neighbors, a food pantry that helps residents in need in Granby and South Hadley.

In her current position as an after-school program director, she manages grants and more than 100 employees. As the child of a single mom, McCourt understands the struggles that many western Massachusetts residents go through.

Her top legislative priorities are education funding, access to health care and services for the elderly and disabled and economic development. McCourt speaks about the economic benefits of addressing climate change and advocates for increased transit funding in our area.

She is a true leader who recognizes that Medicare for All will address health care costs while ensuring that no one suffers for lack of health care. McCourt has been endorsed by NARAL, the Massachusetts Women’s Political Caucus, Massachusetts AFL-CIO, Mass Alliance, and former state representative Ellen Story.

Please consider voting for Marie McCourt in the Democratic primary Sept. 4, and don’t forget that the deadline for registering to vote is Aug. 15.
