I’ve been out of town for a while, which means that I’ve had to read the Gazette online.

When I couldn’t find Lou Groccia and Lucy Pickett’s “Leftovers,” I assumed that the problem, as often the case, was my internet ineptitude. Alas, I was wrong, as I learned from a friend who told me that Leftovers was no longer appearing.

No more recipes made up of equal measures of humor and skill, with a dash of spice and a pinch of puns to delight and tempt me? Now? When all those qualities are especially welcome?

All of us who read the Gazette know that times are tough for newspapers, and the recipe for success is increasingly elusive. That said, canceling Leftovers — with neither explanation nor any word of thanks to the writers in the Gazette — is a recipe that leaves a very bad taste in this reader’s mouth.
