BELCHERTOWN — Emergency crews used their Jaws of Life Saturday night to cut through a banged-up pickup truck and extract a man.

The man, police said Sunday, was driving a blue Dodge Dakota pickup truck on Jensen Road right before 11 p.m. Saturday when he somehow crashed into a tree.

The truck had “heavy front-end damage,” according to a press release, and the man was trapped inside. Once officers freed the driver, responders learned he had injuries to his legs, face and chest. Police did not release more details about the man’s condition or his name.

Paramedics took the man to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield.

The cause of the crash was still under investigation Sunday, police said.
