SOUTH DEERFIELD — A man was transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield after police say he drove a car through the side of an unused building at 250 Greenfield Road on Wednesday afternoon.

A Toyota Corolla’s rear end and license plate were visible inside the building through a hole in the wall at 4:45 p.m., as Deerfield Police Sgt. Jennifer Bartak, South Deerfield firefighters and others stood outside examining the damage.

Bartak said South County EMS brought the driver, who was the vehicle’s lone occupant, to the hospital. She said she did not know where the man is from or the extent or nature of his injuries.

The building, which had a sign out front indicating it is for sale, is across the street from a self-storage facility and a Volvo dealership.
