Authorities: Hampden man killed in Granby crash

GRANBY — Granby Police identified the man killed in a motorcycle crash Tuesday afternoon as 57-year-old Michael Bearse of Hampden.

Bearse died following a crash around 2:15 p.m in the area of 134 Carver St. The Northwestern district attorney’s office had previously identified the man as being a Springfield resident.

Police said Bearse was unconscious when emergency responders arrived on scene. He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. A female passenger on the motorcycle survived with an arm injury, police said.

The motorcyclist was traveling east on Carver when he lost control of the bike and skidded into the westbound lane, according to an email from Mary Carey, spokeswoman for the Northwestern district attorney’s office. The pickup truck driver was not injured.

Granby police, ambulance and fire personnel, as well as South Hadley District 1 Ambulance, responded to the accident.

The accident is being investigated by Granby and state police and the detectives unit of the Northwestern district attorney’s office.
