Homeless man arrested for alleged assault with machete

NORTHAMPTON – Police arrested a homeless man at the Walter Salvo House for allegedly assaulting another person with a machete on Tuesday. No one was seriously injured.  

Steven W. Hanlon,  59, who police say lives on the streets of Northampton, was arrested for assault with a dangerous weapon by Northampton Police. 

Police were called to the Conz Street building at 11:34 p.m., for a report that a male had threatened someone with a machete. Police say they were told that Hanlon got into an altercation another person and that he allegedly grabbed a large machete and lunged at the victim with the machete raised.

The Walter Salvo House is a Northampton Housing Authority property.
