HS indoor track & field: Northampton’s Benjamin Howe wins 1,000 at MSTCA Invitational

Northampton’s Benjamin Howe won the boys 1,000-meter run at the MSTCA Small School Invitational on Saturday in Boston. He crossed the line in 2 minutes, 33.51 seconds.

Howe narrowly edged Ayer Shirely’s Dana Maloney (2:33.8) in second and teammate Simon LaClair (2:33.99) in third.

Tobias L’Esperance was second in the boys two mile run (9:33.32).

Amherst Regional’s Junior Pontes da Veiga took fourth in the boys 300 (35.91).

Northampton’s Mary Yount finished second in the girls two-mile (11:18.17), missing the win by just .09 seconds behind Sutton’s Jen Coseno.

Isabela Shepard placed third in the girls 600 (1:39.86) for the Hurricanes.

MSTCA Large Schools Invitational

Holyoke’s Donovan Kro took third in the boys 600 (1;25.07) on Sunday.
