The Tigers are Final Four-bound.
One year removed from falling in the opening round of the MIAA Division 4 Boys Soccer Tournament, South Hadley is two wins away from a state title. The top-seeded Tigers continued their storybook season on Saturday night, notching a 2-1 victory over No. 9 Cohasset in the quarterfinals to earn a spot in the Div. 4 Final Four.
South Hadley (18-1-2) will play the winner of Sunday’s quarterfinal between No. 5 Frontier and No. 20 Assabet Valley in the state semifinals, likely set for Tuesday or Wednesday. The state final is tentatively set for Saturday, Nov. 19.
The Tigers, which lost to Burke in last year’s Round of 32, were playing a Cohasset team that rallied late in a Round of 16 victory over No. 8 Abington to reach Saturday’s quarterfinal round. The Skippers came back from a 2-0 deficit in the final five minutes to score twice and ultimately notch the game-winning goal in OT.
Leading scorer Charlie Anischik tallied in the win for South Hadley, as did Colin Quinn, while assists were credited to Ben Foley and Carlos David.
South Hadley has outscored its three opponents in the state tournament by a 7-3 margin.
