Immigrant thanks Cooley Dickinson staff for care

I thank each person working at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for the wonderful care you provided for me when I was your patient (“Supporters, officials escort immigrant Lucio Perez from hospital to church,” May 18).

During May, I became suddenly very sick with appendicitis. I live in sanctuary at First Congregational Church of Amherst, United Church of Christ, and I was not sure what I should do. It was a difficult decision to leave the church and go to a hospital, but doctors have told me that if I had not left quickly enough, I could have died.

The ambulance brought me to Cooley Dickinson where I received excellent medical care. Each person who I met at the hospital — the administration, nurses, aides and doctors — treated me with kindness and respect. The daily help from the nurses and aides was very attentive and caring to me and my family, and I am so grateful.

I thank God for guiding their hands in my surgery and for touching their hearts to care for me and my family. I also give thanks to God for all of the kindness I have received from the entire community while living here in sanctuary.

It is clear to me that Cooley Dickinson is a wonderful hospital in the community and for the community. The door of the hospital is open to everyone, with much love and care for all.

I am recovering well, and feel tremendous gratitude to your hospital. Thank you so much to Joanne Marqusee and the full team of Cooley Dickinson.
