Christmas decorations came out of mothballs yesterday in Easthampton and were hung throughout the business section. Conical Christmas trees were suspended from lighted lines over Main Street, while coach lanterns were placed at entrances to the town.

■Nancy B. Eddy announced today that she will be a candidate for the Amherst Board of Selectmen in the coming local election. A member of the Amherst Planning Board, Mrs. Eddy has been active in many civic organizations. She has been a Town Meeting member for five years and a member of the Citizens’ Advisory Committee.

25 Years Ago

■Army Sgt. Kyle R. Dragon, son of Mary Anne and Richard E. Dragon of Country Way, Florence, was honored as a large garrison category first runner-up at the 27th annual Philip A. Connelly Awards Program in Palm Springs, Calif. The program recognizes top Army cooks for their food service excellence in preparing foods in dinging facilities and in field kitchens.

■Northampton District Court may prove a pioneer, if a job-sharing experiment soon to get under way becomes a model for other state courts. Longtime employees Eileen Campbell and CarrieAnn O’Connor begin an arrangement Dec. 4 that will allow them to continue working for the court, on reduced schedules. Both recently had second children.

■More than 55 percent of eligible voters trekked to the polls in Massachusetts on Election Day, the greatest number for a non-presidential year in two decades. That’s according to final vote tallies that state Secretary William Galvin is submitting for certification.

■An experienced educator with intimate knowledge of the Northampton school system has been tapped to replace outgoing Superintendent Isabelina Rodriguez on an interim basis. William Erickson, 69, who served as superintendent at Hampshire Regional School District in Westhampton for 11 years before retiring in 2005, was the School Committee’s choice Tuesday to guide the system through the end of the academic year.
