Must not be taken in by celebrity candidates

I very much agree with Joe Gannon’s column (“Movement politics desperately needed,” Jan. 13).

And I especially appreciate his quoting Chris Hedges, one of my favorite social critics. Hedges is more often than not, dead on about the liberal class (of which he has written a book) and the Democratic Party’s refusal to address the concerns of their base.

Both parties are owned by the 1 percent. Be careful though, Chris has a show called “On Contact” on the RT network. You may be accused of being a Putin dupe or some other “Russia-gate” inspired epithet.

In any case, I hope Gannon’s column will contribute to the necessary conversation we need to have in determining our organizing strategies to bring peace and justice to this chaotic world. The “powers that be” will fight us every step of the way.

We must not allow ourselves to be taken in by controlled opposition tactics (like celebrity candidates) that will lead us back to politics as usual. We simply don’t have that kind of time.
