Local softball: Southampton advances to 14U Suburban championship, falls in 12U final

Jocelyn Mettey threw a no-hitter as the Southampton Raiders beat Westfield Batter’s Box, 13-1 in five innings, to advance to the 14-and-under Suburban League softball championship with a semifinal win, Tuesday at Norris Elementary in Southampton.

Mettey struck out eight and added two hits to help herself.

Southampton (11-0) will face Greenfield (11-3) in the championship at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at Norris.

Emma Czarniecki also singled twice. McKenzie McCarthy, Theresa Saltis and Paige Galpin each had a hit and an RBI.

Greenfield Grizzlies 9, Southampton Heat 1 — Caelyn Thayer had an RBI single in the fourth inning for the Heat’s only hit in the 12U Suburban championship game. She drove in Teagan Charles, who walked.

Makayla Labrie walked in the fifth, and Rosie Follet walked in the seventh for Southampton (11-3).
