Dear Mr. Wray: Please do not resign your position. Remain in office until your term is completed. You expect your resignation to prevent the reputation of the FBI from being dragged through attacks by the incoming administration. Nothing could be further from the truth. Your replacement will have no regrets about letting that happen. The incoming administration will be a combination of gross incompetence, self-dealing, and strongly fascistic leanings led by a man without a moral compass or ounce of empathy. The rule of law and enforcement with an even hand is all that will preserve the founding principles of our society. You may already be feeling abandoned by a Congress that at best is passively accepting criticism of legitimate FBI roles and functions and loudly complaining about those who won’t agree to being bullied due to standing on principle. Retreating from your position makes that congressional behavior easier and more likely to get even worse. Please reconsider your resignation. The peril to our democratic governance is obvious.
