The initial reasoning behind the placement of the flag at Nashawannuk Pond in Easthampton was due to the thoughtfulness and patriotic sentiment brought on by the horrific devastation of 9/11. This has been going on for 23 years! So it has taken 23 years to be of criticism and breach of flag etiquette?

This magnificent sight, seen clearly on a fall brisk day or on a sunny summer morning, gives most pedestrians, travelers, joggers and visitors a prominence of American glory with the backdrop of the Mount Tom range. This sight makes a statement of sorts, without fanfare or dominance. In comparison or contrast we have a development in the making on Northampton Street where there is a future conglomerate of sorts that will in all likelihood discredit the view of the Mount Tom range. Adding to that will multiply traffic congestion, but not a peep from the brain trust from City Hall or conservation-minded loyalists.

So in ending, my conclusion is that this sudden reformation and political order is solely a statement in regard to Nov. 5.
