Decisions frequently lead to unintended consequences. In ruling that presidents enjoy immunity for their official acts, carrying out “core duties” of the president, what did the Supreme Court just do?
Defending the United States from threats to its security is a core duty of the president. According to the court’s recent immunity ruling, President Joe Biden is now able, with impunity, to declare Donald Trump a threat to the national security of the United States, and order Trump’s arrest and confinement until after the presidential election — or whenever, one would suppose.
