After creating a budget crisis by recklessly spending one-time money on recurring expenses, the Northampton School Committee is asking the city for a bail out by using its savings to prop up the school budget. But these savings are just another source for one-time money that will not be available next year when the School Committee will be forced to come back to the city again for another bail out. The School Committee should instead do its job and create a multi-year budget plan that uses recurring revenue for recurring expenses. This entire budget fiasco is completely the fault of a School Committee that refuses to do the work they were elected for, and have instead simply kicked the problem up to the city.- Stephen GilsonFormer School Committee rep for Ward 3
