We’re not only students, we’re the future of Northampton. As an 8th grade student at JFK Middle School, I can confidently say a large public school budget is essential for maintaining a thriving educational environment. These teachers not only instruct students in the subject they teach but also provide mentorship, guidance, and support to students of all ages. Their dedication has illuminated many students’ paths to knowledge in the past few years, guiding us through the many waves of learning. They have built strong relationships with students, parents, and fellow colleagues. Massachusetts is ranked third best in education throughout the country and number one in student success, to maintain this it is important that Northampton has a strong education. Cutting the budget and firing a large number of teachers will not only lessen the quality of Northampton’s education, but have an immense impact on the community Northampton Public Schools have built. Having them stay in the school system is an important investment for the future, and will ensure that students receive the best possible foundation for their academic success. Without my teachers who have pushed me beyond my comfort zone with their challenging assignments, positive attitudes, and passion towards English, math, science, Languages, history, and learning, I would not be the student I am today.
