Laurie Jane Korza: Grateful for first responders valiant service

I am writing to express my extreme appreciation for the Northampton Police and Fire departments valiant efforts to save my life partner after a medical emergency on Saturday. They worked tirelessly and showed compassion and kindness to me during the worst time of my life. My partner did not survive but my heart is ever grateful for the efforts of our first responders and the staff of the Cooley Dickinson Hospital Emergency Department.

After reading the news of the UMass partying that selfishly and foolishly tied up responders and hospital staff, I can’t help but feel even more grateful that an ambulance was available to respond to my call. I wonder if others were less fortunate. Additionally, my daughter and I were forced to endure the out-of-control behavior of the students arriving outside the room where we grieved over my partner. Something needs to be done to curtail this dangerous and life-threatening behavior which affects not just the students but the community at large. And please show your appreciation every day for the Police and Fire departments and hospital workers. We are fortunate to have them.
