What is Hadley’s Select Board chair afraid of?

An open letter to David Fill, chairman of Hadley Select Board.

This letter serves to express my extreme displeasure with many of your recent maneuvers and political posturing as you serve as the chairman of the Select Board. It has become increasingly obvious that you are representing yourself and other conservative cronies, instead of serving the will of the people who reside in Hadley.

You ignore or put roadblocks in recommendations from the Board of Health while stripping them of their power. You threaten to change the composition of the board, or the manner in which they are elected, so you can hand pick and appoint more of your narrow minded friends to support your not so hidden agenda.

And now the pattern continues with the Conservation Commission. When you personally don’t agree with their recommendations, you have tried to change the composition of the commission, and to strip the chair of any power she may have.

What are you afraid of Mr. Fill? The folks on the Board of Health and Conservation Commission have a commitment to facts and expertise in their given areas. Does that threaten you? It’s time to listen to the voices of the majority of Hadley residents who merely want to live in a beautiful rural area, maintain a cleaner Conntecituc River, not threatened by overuse from unregulated camping, feel safe from the airborne poison of mosquito abatement, feel confident in local pandemic responses and have confidence in our leaders.

You sir, are not showing leadership, but schoolyard bullying tactics to achieve your goals. Sadly, your little band of followers blindly follow your every move, allowing you to continue these tactics.

The good news is that the people will rise up, and send you guys packing. You have all worn out your welcome. Get with the program Mr. Fill, or we will kick you out of it.
