Neil Jones: Police staffing and retirement

Is there a minimum public employee retirement age? I read the article on town police staffing needs and updates that will be needed in training as dictated by the state. While there was a mention of part-time officers receiving training and then possibly leaving that town for other police opportunities, there was no direct mention of another possibility, which is actually much more costly to a town. A person able to retire at an age young enough to consider starting a second career choice. Certainly that is a nice benefit to that retired person, but it impacts and has costs paid for by the town.
