Susan Mosler, M.D.: I know what ‘team’ I’m on

I am writing this letter as an elected official in Hadley, the chair of the Board of Health. I am deeply disturbed by the recent actions of the Select Board regarding the Conservation Commission.

If being on “Team Hadley” means looking the other way to wrongdoing, then I am not a member of that team. I belong to the team that supports democracy, the rule of law, and fair play. I believe that the actions of the Select Board are egregious and do not accurately represent the majority of residents in our town.

I ask that the Select Board rescind its decision regarding reduction in the number of members of the Conservation Commission and reinstate the chair immediately. If the Select Board has concerns regarding the functioning of our Conservation Commission, then the right action to take is to meet with the commission, discuss any documented complaints and then work collaboratively to initiate corrective actions if deemed necessary.

Last winter the Select Board, in the midst of a global pandemic, proposed changing the Board of Health from elected to appointed, in order to “have more oversight.” They were unhappy that the BOH was actively enforcing our governor’s COVID-19 regulations. It surely appears that there is a dangerous pattern here.

I encourage all residents of Hadley to contact the members of the Select Board and let them know which “Team” you play on.
