Richard Walsh: Holyoke deserves better than another Dunkin’

In regards to Dunkin’ Donuts suing (“Planners sued over Dunkin’ denial,” Sept. 21), this whole situation is out of whack. Guess what, Dunkin’ Donuts doesn’t get to solely dictate where they can build their eyesores.

There are enough Dunkins in Holyoke. A Dunkin’ at Mountn Tom is just in poor taste. It’s an absolutely beautiful area that doesn’t need to be polluted by the presence of a Dunkin’ shop. You don’t need a civil engineer to know the impact on traffic will be negative. The Dunkin’ proposal really does nothing for Holyoke.

The thought of going up there for a hike and seeing Dunkin’ cups and napkins is not acceptable. I will personally write the petition and get thousands of signatures if that’s what’s necessary. Holyoke deserves better.

Oh yeah, one more thing. Dunkin’ suing Holyoke is going to cost the city money. That’s unacceptable and a hostile position to take, so when they lose I hope they are prepared to reimburse the city.
