Michael Chernoff: Don’t forget those who pandered to Trump

All presidential transitions, even those with substantial political and philosophical differences between the people involved, occurred peacefully with cooperation from the outgoing offered to the incoming.

And now, because we had a narcissistic psychopath in the White House and a bunch of toady Republican senators and representatives who would not tell their constituents to accept the truth, we face a situation that we have always associated with dictators and criminals in foreign countries. Here in the United States!

And all this phoney braying without a shred of evidence, without a single court accepting the notion of voter fraud. Without a state election official going along with this conspiratorial daydream of widespread irregularities. This is what we’ve sunk to: to have to secure and board up our state capitals, to need a heavy military presence in our nation’s capital in order to ensure one of the cornerstones of a democracy: the orderly transfer of power from one administration to the next.

It’s scary and it’s shameful. We should never forgive the elected senators and representatives pandered to this deranged fool who brought us to this point through his incitements and provocations, to this point.
