Karen Bivona: Caring for all citizens

The days of acute state of emergency in Texas in which people don’t have water, heat and electricity are a horrifying reminder of how government officials don’t value and prioritize the care and safety of its citizens above their own career goals.

Unconscionable in 2021.

Also, in 2021, 30-40% of people living on the Navajo Nation don’t have running water and electricity — every day, month after month, year after year. President Biden has stated that he wants “to reinstate the annual White House Tribal Nation’s Conference, nominate judges who understand federal Indian law and fully fund the Indian Health Service.” (NYT, Feb.19) Let us do our part to uphold and keep alive President Biden’s tribal communities policy agenda by writing to our legislators in support of caring for all citizens.
