Elizabeth Horvay: Essential workers

It’s clear that the governor only cares if his tribe gets the COVID vaccine. In January, he had his whole staff vaccinated. Is everyone on his staff 75+ or a health care worker?

Then, Phase 2 came along. Those 75+ were supposed to come first, then essential workers. But the governor decided that those 65+ were more essential than essential workers, so the workers everyone had agreed were essential were bumped. I guess they’re less essential, even though they transport us to our jobs, make sure we can buy groceries, and make it possible for our schools to reopen.

Then the governor decided that caregivers of 75 year olds — or, not clear, people who accompany 75-year-olds — are more essential than essential workers. I guess the essential workers got bumped again. Apparently Gov. Baker doesn’t think they’re essential. For the most part, they’re just low-income black and brown people.
