Claudia Lefko: Who are these students complaining against Morse?

Let me get this straight. A group of students — UMass Democrats — has waited until just weeks before the upcoming primary election to release a letter of complaint against Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse, telling him he is no longer welcome at their events.

And what upcoming events might those be, honestly, in this time of COVID when invitations for speakers are probably — at best — at an all-time low at the university?

Who are these students? How many are they? What are their interests in this election, and what is to be gained by creating this stir — allegations of inappropriate conduct — against Alex Morse?

Have they looked at Congressman Richard Neal’s record in Congress, and considered Neal’s conduct? Do they know that Richie Neal’s “conduct” includes such strong (and questionable) ties to corporate donors that he’s one of only a few sitting congress members being targeted by Fight Corporate Monopolies, a political nonprofit founded by the anti-monopoly American Economic Liberties Project?

Have they considered that, in too many instances, Neal’s conduct benefits him — helping him maintain his position and power — rather than his constituents or ordinary citizens in this country?

If you want more information and a context to better understand what’s happening in this primary contest, I recommend you follow the reporting on this race at theintercept.com.
