I have decided not to run for reelection for Northampton School Committee in November. I just turned 73 years old. Birthdays for me are a time for reflection and this one led me to reprioritization, given how time is marching on. I have granddaughters who are growing quickly — too quickly. And I look for joy in this broken world.
For me, writing books, consulting with new principals and with districts undergoing the literacy program adoption and attention to reading instruction, as well as being a present wife, mother, grandmother, and friend are all that bring me incredible joy and satisfaction. I am grateful to the learning and growing I have experienced in working with all on School Committee.
The members are dedicated public servants who care deeply about Northampton’s students. Our community needs to celebrate them and all who choose to serve as elected officials.
I am very grateful to all who supported my candidacy and have supported me while I’ve served. I will be fully involved until my term is over at the end of December. I am available to any and all who are considering running for School Committee — please contact me at gwenagna@gmail.com. May we all find hope and peace in the coming days.
