NORTHAMPTON – The city councilor for Ward 7 will end her tenure at the end of the year.

Alisa Klein, currently serving her third term on City Council, said in a press release she plans to retire from the City Council at the end of the current term, Dec.31, 2019.

“I’ve enjoyed every minute of serving my neighbors and friends in Ward 7 and throughout the city,” Klein said in the statement. “But it’s time to let others bring their ideas, energy, and advocacy to the Council.”

Klein was elected to City Council in Ward 7, the ward that includes Leeds, in 2013.

Klein said she will continue activist work.

“I’m ready to devote more focused attention to my professional career and to return to my passion for grassroots activist work on social, economic, and racial justice; Israel-Palestine peace and justice; and other social and political issues,” she said.
