HOLYOKE — Earth Day arrived on Thursday sunny, but chilly and breezy – around 40°F with wind gusts to 25 mph – as volunteers armed with gloves, large trash bags and several “grabbers” kicked off the OneHolyoke CDC’s 2021 “Keep It Clean” campaign. The troupe picked up litter down the length of Center Street, from North Canal to McNally Field, in the first weekly clean sweep of the year. The events will continue in different parts of the city each Saturday culminating in a citywide event on Sept. 22. Routes and times for several of the weeks have been set but interested parties are encouraged to use the volunteer sign-up on the OneHolyoke site to suggest other locations.
