There are two events in the Pioneer Valley on Thursday organized to show solidarity with the women who have accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

Women across the Pioneer Valley and the nation are encouraged to gather on the sidewalk of their local post offices from noon to 1 p.m. to support the testimony of Christine Blasey Ford, one of the women accusing Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct.

This event was organized locally by Becka Becky Castro, a Northampton resident and business owner. She has promoted the event via social media and word of mouth.

Castro suggested women gather peacefully, wear black, and share stories of sexual assault and harassment. Women are also welcome to come and listen to others.

Castro said men are also encouraged to participate.

The second event, a Solidarity Community Speak Out, will take place at Northampton City Hall, at 5:15 p.m.

Community members are encouraged to share their personal thoughts and experiences about sexual assault and the news about Kavanaugh’s hearings.

The event will end with a moment of silence for sexual assault survivors.

The events coincides with the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing at which Kavanaugh and Ford, the first of three to accuse him of sexual misconduct more than 30 years ago, will testify. The hearing looms as a critical moment in the 53-year-old conservative jurist’s quest to join the high court. As of now, Republicans controlling that panel have announced no plans to focus Thursday’s session on the claims of the two other women.
