UMass police seek suspects in campus assault

AMHERST — University of Massachusetts Police are seeking two men suspected of assaulting two students on the third floor of Dwight Hall following an attempted marijuana deal.

Initially, several officers were unable to find anyone involved in the fracas. But, later in the afternoon, a witness to the altercation contacted police and provided additional details which led officers to a specific room in Dwight Hall.

During the second response it was discovered that two UMass students had been assaulted following an attempted drug transaction involving marijuana.

It was further determined an initial altercation had taken place inside Dwight Hall, which then continued into the parking lot where a firearm was exhibited by two male suspects.

The suspects took off in a red vehicle of unknown make and model.

Neither of the students needed medical attention following the incident. The suspects are known to one of the UMass students who is cooperating with police.

UMass police are pursuing multiple leads, including surveillance video. Police are also seeking community assistance in identifying the suspects.

One is a white male, college age, short blond hair, 5 feet 9 to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with facial hair, wearing a white T-shirt and blue jeans.

The other is a white male, college age, thin, with brown hair, 6 feet 1 inch tall, wearing a bright red sweatshirt, blue jeans, and white/gray Nike sneakers.
