AMHERST — Congressman James McGovern and internationally known author Leanne Brown will talk about fighting hunger on Wednesday evening at the Amherst Survival Center.

Local radio personality Monte Belmonte, who heads up the 2-day and 43-mile trek for hunger, will facilitate the “community conversation.” The event, titled “Fighting Hunger in Our Kitchens and In Our Congress,” will take place at the center at 138 Sunderland Road, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. It is co-sponsored by the University of Massachusetts School of Public Policy and the Food Bank of Western Mass.

McGovern, D-Worcester, has notably made hunger a front-burner issue by way of his End Hunger Now campaign. On the three-way panel, he’ll speak about addressing the problem from the policy side, while Brown — nutritionist who penned “Good and Cheap,” a recipe book with cost breakdowns — will speak to fighting hunger in the home.

Brown will also teach a cooking class Thursday at Whole Foods from 4 p.m. to 5:45 p.m.
