HOLYOKE — Four residents were displaced from their home Tuesday morning after a fire broke out in a basement at 50 North Canal St., according to the Holyoke Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to the 2½-story townhouse at around 11:30 a.m. after receiving 911 calls reporting smoke in the building’s basement. A man was home with his baby boy and they were able to evacuate unharmed, Fire Capt. Kevin Cavagnac said in a statement.
Firefighters found heavy smoke conditions at the scene, but no immediate flames. After entering the home, they found flames in a crawl space below the kitchen, which they quickly extinguished, according to Cavagnac.
The townhouse suffered smoke damage and four residents will be temporarily displaced, according the fire department. No injuries were reported.
