High schools: Frontier, Hampshire qualify for softball postseason

Frontier Regional and Hampshire Regional both qualified for the Western Massachusetts Division 2 Softball Tournament with wins Friday.

Macy Ring launched her second home run of the year, and the Red Hawks beat Athol, 6-2, in South Deerfield.

Olivia Deane, Olivia Vecellio (RBI) and Arianna Walker each had three hits. Deane struck out three, walked two and allowed two runs on eight hits.

Lily Spencer drove in two runs on two hits for Frontier (10-3, 6-2 Franklin). Charlotte Doulette singled twice.

Maggie Rubeck (two runs) and Jocelyn Mettey each went 2-for-5 for the Raiders, who beat Westfield, 7-2, on the road for their 10th win.

Bri Sulikowski (RBI), Katie Baker (run) and Emma Czarniecki (double) had two hits each for Hampshire (10-3).

Smith Vocational 18, Westfield Tech 5 (5) — Cassidy Colrusso was 4-for-4 with two doubles, four RBIs and four runs scored. Karlie Petlock hit a three-run double for the Vikings.

Tiana Rivera doubled twice and drove in three runs for the Vikings (12-2, 11-0 Tri-County).

Ashley Schabacker (double) and Sierra Sinno each went 2-for-3 and had two RBIs.

Ludlow 5, South Hadley 3 — Sarah Wojnarowski drove in two runs for the Tigers on sacrifice flies. Sarah Bisson had three hits and scored four runs, stealing four bases.

Molly Goshea singled twice for South Hadley (1-10, 0-5 Suburban).

Gateway Regional 14, Commerce 2 (5) — Nicole Hannigan doubled twice for the Gators, scoring three runs. She also struck out nine, allowing six hits and a walk.

Ava Auclair (double, three runs), Lily Ryan (triple, two runs) and Angela Wright (double) all had two hits for Gateway.

Minnechaug 4, Northampton 1 — Marissa Badorini had two hits and struck out two for the Blue Devils (5-9).

Katelyn Ramdath and Jill McGrath each singled.

Baseball

Westfield Tech 5, Smith Vocational 4 — The Vikings allowed three runs in the bottom of the seventh. They had a chance to secure first place in the Tri-County South, but the Tigers occupy that position.

Will Mollison singled three times.

Tom Doyle had two hits and an RBI, while Dylan Fil drove in a run.

Nathan Mollison (two hits) and Troy Barayon doubled for Smith Vocational (8-6, 4-2 Tri-County South).

Frontier Regional 15, Belchertown 3 — Connor Waitkus (two RBIs) and Matt Hildreth (RBI) each had two hits and scored two runs.

Garret Deforest drove in two runs on two hits for Frontier Regional (11-1, 5-0 Hampshire East). Kalen Evans was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Jacob Torna singled three times and scored a run for the Orioles (4-7, 0-5).

Jack Mankowsky was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Zach Bohnet drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.

East Longmeadow 8, Amherst Regional 1 — J.B. Mills had the Hurricanes’ only hit, an RBI double in the fifth. Nate Mills walked and scored for Amherst (5-6, 2-4 Valley). Justin Masteralexis walked twice.

Boys lacrosse

South Hadley 16, West Springfield 10 — Liam Dawson accounted for eight goals and an assist, as the Tigers won at home.

Nick Gaston had a hat trick and an assist, while Mike Senecal added two goals and two assists for South Hadley (5-6).

Hunter Borowski found the net once and distributed two assists. Sean McEwen added two goals. Hunter Carey had an assist.

Jacey Rondeau made four saves.

St. Mary 12, Pathfinder 3 — Aaron Blanchard scored five goals and had two assists, while Edward Towers had four goals and three assists for the Saints.

Joe Walz, Evan Ploof (two assists) and Bodhi Hall found the net once each. Jeramy Hoar made 14 saves for St. Mary (5-6, 4-2 Suburban).

Girls lacrosse

Agawam 19, Northampton 3 — Kate Sullivan had a hat trick for the Blue Devils (1-13, 0-5 Valley Wheel), while Sophie Morini and Julienne Lussier added an assist each. Ella Moreau stopped seven shots.

Pittsfield 19, St. Mary 8 — Skylar Duda scored four goals, while Samantha Moran had three goals and an assist for the Saints (1-11).

Katarzyna Wisnauckas added a goal and an assist. April Warner stopped 15 shots.

Granby 16, Amherst Regional 6 — Julia Frappier tallied three goals and five assists for the Rams in a home win.

Madison Sexton found the net five times. Ella Laliberte (assist) and Rosalynn Volbrecht had hat tricks. Gabby Walz (assist) and Ariana Klekotka each scored for Granby (10-3, 3-1 Valley). Liberty Conlin saved six shots.

Zora Dallman had three goals for Amherst (3-9, 0-5), while Rachel Kawall added two goals and an assist. Malina Kern found the net. Cleo Hein stopped seven shots.

Chicopee Comp 12, South Hadley 6 — Hannah Bisson had a hat trick for the Tigers (3-9). Abigail Hartley scored twice, and Breann Foley added two assists. Bridget Sears (goal) and Corryn Moroney each had an assist.

Boys ultimate

Four Rivers 12, Northampton 8 — Asa Thompson scored five times in a road loss. Kaleb Zuckerman had two goals and three defended passes. Zack Frenier added two assists and two defenses. Clem Fisher distributed two assists. Riley Cirincione-Lynch scored once.
