High schools: Fowles, Yurko carry Northampton golf; Hampshire gymnastics beats Westfield

Galen Fowles and Evan Yurko each shot a 3-over 38 to lead the Northampton golf team past Southwick, 161-175, Wednesday afternoon.

The pair shared medalist honors at Northampton County Club. Matt Garrity, of Southwick, also shot a 38.

Camille Richmond added a 41 and Jack Mattison-Gulotta had a 44 for the Blue Devils (10-1), who picked up their 10th victory.

Gymnastics

Hampshire Regional 131.25, Westfield 129.425 — Hailey Raffa and Tyler Hetu went 1-2 in the all-around and guided the Raiders to their first win over the Bombers in over 10 years.

Raffa finished with a score of 34.1. Hetu scored 33.625.

Raffa placed first on vault (8.8) and on the floor (8.95). She also tied for second on bars (8.3).

Hetu won on bars (8.7), placed third on floor (8.4) and tied for third on vault (8.325).

Allie Johndrow added a second on beam (8.35), while Hadleigh Rogalski was third on beam (8.25).

Boys soccer

Easthampton 2, Gateway Regional 0 — Anthony Soucy scored twice with an assist each from Javier Simms and Carter Hebert as the Eagles won at Nonotuck Park.

Griffin Foskitt and Gigi DeNucce Simms combined for no saves in the shutout.

Preston Coffee had nine saves for the Gators.

Belchertown 3, Amherst Regional 2 — Ethan Czaparowski had a goal and one assist, while Nathan Schiffer and Grayson Marques each scored once as the Orioles won on the road.

Jack Holt and Chris Adzima had one assist apiece, while Jacob Chaisson made eight saves in the win.

Matt Farinne and Marvin Duran scored for the Hurricanes, while Zach Watson-Stevens and Michael Camara each had one assist. Owen Young made five saves in defeat.

Boys cross country

Hampshire Regional 20, Westfield 41 — The Bombers took first overall, but the Raiders’ top five followed within 10 seconds of each other as they won at Westfield High’s 3.03-mile course.

Nitesh Roncone was second (17:44) on the 5-kilometer course. Jeff Fish (17:47), Gulian Marconi (17:49), Miles Lance (17:51) and Evan Coltman (17:54) close out the win.

Antonio Phanuef was first (17:19) for Westfield.

Easthampton 25, Smith Vocational 30 — Gianni Soucy was first in 16:44 on the 2.5-mile course and Leverett Horrigan followed in second in 16:54 as the Eagles held off the Vikings in Northampton.

Jonah Slaghekke was fifth (18:27), Zakaria Oulbeid was eighth (19:05) and James Aquino was ninth (20:35) for Easthampton.

Matt Harron (17:26) and Ari Ginsberg (18:09) were third and fourth for the Vikings. Trevont’e Moore (18:46) and James Biddulph (19:01) were sixth and seventh. Dylan Arruda (23:13) closed out Smith’s top five.

PVCICS 18, Gateway Regional 41 — The Dragons (4-0) swept the top four en route to the win on the 2.4-mile course in Huntington.

Odin Moore set a course record in 14:18. It was Moore’s fourth course record this season. Hunter Palm (14:30), Kyah Frantz (14:42) and Leo Gomez-Thomas (15:10) followed. Grafton Tolopko (eighth, 16:52) closed out the win.

Dave Vasilchenko (15:20), Patrick Millin (15:59) and Dan McKellick (16:18) finished fifth, sixth and seventh for the Gators (3-1). Sean Forgue (18:36) was 11th and Matt Small (18:57) was 13th.

Girls cross country

Hampshire Regional 23, Westfield 32 — Sylvie Mahon-Moore (21:17) and Katie Shallcross (22:57) went 1-2 for the Raiders, who won at Westfield High’s 3.03-mile course.

Delaney Marek (23:36) was fifth, while Zyna Wisnaukas (25:29) and Margot LaPlamnte (26:44) were seventh and eighth.

PVCICS 25, Gateway Regional 30 — Seventh grader Alexandra Henrichcon set a record in 18:07 on the 2.4-mile course, but the Gators fell at home.

The Dragons (4-0) placed their top five within the top eight. Arden Clarke DeGrenier was second (18:42), while Eliza Cormier (18:54), Ava Crowley 19:52) and Isla Salus (20:18) were fourth, fifth and sixth. Ada Nystrom (20:25) closed out the win in eighth.

Sawyer Wilkinson (18:49) was third for the Gators. Kaitlyn Maynard (20:22) was seventh, Mia Gozgit (20:58) was ninth and Victoria Kot (21:09) was 10th.

Girls soccer

Belchertown 5, Amherst Regional 0 — The Orioles cruised behind four different scorers at home.

Erin Lucas had two goals, while Sarah Sedlacek, Alexa Laflamme and Brooke Samborski each had one.

Avery Klingensmith assisted on two goals, while Samborski and Madysen Lepage had one apiece.

Mabelle Bessette finished with three saves in the shutout.

Field hockey

Frontier Regional 3, Mohawk Trail Regional 2 — Emily DeMaio scored twice while Devyn Prusak added one goal as the Red Hawks won on the road.

Ella Flanders earned the win in goal.

Belchertown 5, Amherst Regional 0 — Abigail Olden scored all five goals to pace the Orioles in the road win. Ashley Messier had one assist.
