High schools: Brice Letendre’s 31 points help Belchertown run away from Easthampton

Brice Letendre poured in a game-high 31 points, and the Belchertown boys basketball team picked up a huge victory for postseason purposes on the road in Easthampton Tuesday night.
The Orioles built a 16-point halftime lead then scored 33 points in the third quarter alone en route to a 95-68 victory over the Eagles.
Shea MacLean tallied 18 points for the Orioles, which got back to the .500 mark at 9-9 to close out their regular season. Jake Pacunas followed with 15 points and Kyle Dunigan made it four Belchertown players in double figures with 13 points.
Jasper Alvarez shared game-high scoring honors as the Easthampton star matched Letendre’s output with 31 points.
Holyoke 75, West Springfield 58 – Calvin Godbolt’s 21 points were tops for the Purple Knights, which improved to 13-3 with Tuesday’s road victory.
Aden Cabrera scored 19 in the win and Julian Fasoli went for 10 points to pace Holyoke. The Knights close their regular season with a home game Wednesday against Tantasqua.
Pioneer 70, Frontier 51 — Pioneer closed out its regular season with an unbeaten 18-0 record following a Hampshire League South victory over the Redhawks at Messer Gymnasium Tuesday.
Pioneer led 41-22 at the half and 64-38 going into the fourth.

Athol 51, Smith Academy 42 – Cam Graves scored 12 points to pace the Falcons in a Hampshire League North loss in Hatfield on Tuesday night.
Garret Willard added nine points and Ryan McCoy tossed in seven for Smith Academy, which closed its regular season 11-7 overall.
Smith Voc 50, Mohawk Trail 32 – The Vikings used a 22-6 edge in the third quarter to blow open a six-point halftime lead and secure a victory in their regular season finale.
Smith Voc (13-5), which won its third game in a row and fifth in its last six, received 23 points from Makayla Tatro to lead the charge. Julianis Suarez added 12 points in the win, and Caitlin Willard tossed in nine.
Granby 52, Ludlow 37 – Brenna Moreno poured in 18 points and Kalli White tallied 16 for the Rams in a much-needed 15-point victory on Tuesday night.
The Rams pulled back to the .500 mark at 9-9 with the victory – their fourth in their last five games. Autumn Sicard tossed in eight points on the night.
South Hadley 67, Quaboag 26 – CC Gurek had 24 points and 10 rebounds to lead all scorers as the Tigers cruised to their 16th win of the season Tuesday night.
South Hadley (16-2), likely the No. 2 seed in the upcoming PVIAC Class B tournament, also received 13 points from Olivia Athas. All told, 11 different Tigers factored into the scoring in a balanced effort.
Girls basketball
Easthampton 53, Palmer 44 — An 18-point outing from Samone Young, including 11 in the fourth quarter, enabled the Eagles to pull away for a nine-point win Monday in Easthampton.
Veronica Rapoza notched 12 points for Easthampton, while Nola Roos and Grace Pappadellis tossed in nine points apiece.
South Hadley 47, Drury 33 — Cara Dean drilled a pair of 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 15 points in the Tigers’ double-digit win on Monday night.
Olivia Athas joined her in double figures with 11 points, as South Hadley turned a tight game into a decisive win thanks to a 15-5 edge in the fourth quarter.
Hockey
Amherst 3, Southwick 2 — Trailing 2-0 after one period, the Hurricanes scored all three of their goals in the second period to earn a come-from-behind victory on Monday.
Sawyer Ferro, Ethan Mooney, Ben Remensnyder tallied for Amherst, which won its fourth game in a row. Eric Chen recorded two assists in the win and goalie Jason Kim held firm from there with 25 saves between the pipes.
